“Tumble” by Alicia Renadette
Alicia Renadette’s mixed media work is disturbing, but then again, so is her subject matter. Renadette examines the burdens and even joys of femininity and domestic life and all their gritty details. Womens’ lives are made up of stains, dirt, wrinkles, chipped nails, kitchen grime, bathroom filth, bedsprings and prom dresses. In and of themselves, they are but fragments of a much bigger picture. In and of themselves, they are not for the squeamish, though often he bigger picture may tell a different story. Renadette uses materials such as nail clippings, her own hair and dryer lint (see the rose above) to create powerful installations and sculptures that are not easy to digest. Take a look at the work on her website and read her artist’s statement.
