The Little Mermaid by Eric van Straaten
The characters that are the subjects of Eric van Straaten’s 3D printed sculptures seem to have come out of a collection of contemporary fairytales. The updated Little Mermaid lounges on a white plastic chair, sunglasses on and vices by her side, the very picture of suburban leisure. A masked heroine is partially trapped in a cage – is she the wasps’ aggressor or victim? And a colourful Little Prince wears an expression of shock, as he clutches a frog – what will happen next?
