Raw For The Oceans by G-Star x the Vortex Project

raw_for_the_oceans_by_g-star_x_the_vortex_project.jpg It’s not just Method’s plastic bottles, now denim brand G-Star clothes will include yarn from plastic recovered from the ocean.

Details: The effort is a G-Star collaboration with Bionic Yarn and the Vortex Project. The G-Star Raw For The Oceans collection is curated by Pharrell Williams, who is also Creative Director of Bionic Yarn since 2009.

Together they will produce a sustainable collection from recycled ocean plastic. Some estimates put the current amount of plastic in the ocean at 40 million pounds in five gigantic slow moving whirlpools called gyres. Some of the clothing will feature prints of “Otto”, the initiative’s mascot.

“Working with G-Star was an obvious choice because they have a legacy of pushing the boundaries of fashion and denim forward. Bionic Yarn is a company built around performance, denim is the perfect category to show the world what our product can do. Everyone has jeans in their closet” says Williams.

The RAW for the Oceans collection will be available at selected G-Star RAW stores, and online from August 15th, 2014.
