The garden is the scene for recent work, Wild Companions, by Yolanda Sanchez where she seeks out re-enchantment in a natural setting. Using paint, brushstrokes and colour to evoke a garden in the abstract (though it is certainly tempting to squint and guess at the species depicted), Sanchez succeeds in seducing us with her poetry. The blooms are rich with feeling, heavy with scent – the viewer is, indeed, enriched by the bouquet.

Wild Companions runs from March 3 through April 2, 2011 at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in New York.
