KXX Sound Rings by Michiel Cornelissen

kxx_rattling_rings_michiel_cornelissen.jpg Shake to activate: KXX Sound Rings by Michiel Cornelissen are 3D printed, with beads inside that rattle, inspired by the traditional Afro-Brazilian caxixi shaken percussion instrument.

Details: In various sizes and colors. 3D printing allows the rings to be manufactured with the beads enclosed, no assembly required. KXX/caxixi is pronounced kah-shi-shi in Brazilian Portuguese. The caxixi instrument is a closed basket with a flat bottom, usually made from dried gourd, and seeds or other small objects inside.

Designer: Michiel Cornelissen’s studio is located in Utrecht, The Netherlands. He studied at the Delft University of Technology, and worked for over a decade at Philips Design.
