by Harry / August 12, 2013
MOCO LOCO is 10 years on the web this year, to mark the occasion this week we're talking to designers from where we began, our home town of Montreal. We asked designer Zoë Mowat for her five favourite places in Montreal right now.

1. The Expo Grounds

"Biking through the old Expo 67 grounds on Parc Jean Drapeau is one of my favourite things to do in the spring and summer. I always make sure to pass by Moshe Safdie's Habitat 67 and Buckminster Fuller's geodesic dome on the way."

2. Kouign Amann

"Most Montrealers have a favourite patisserie and this became mine after I sampled their namesake pastry - a layered buttery cake called the Kouign Amann." (322 Mont-Royal E.)

3. The Jean Talon Market

"I'm very fortunate that my local 'épicerie' is the wonderful Jean Talon Market in Little Italy. After finishing my list, I usually stay for a snack and lose myself in the row upon row of amazing local produce and other specialties." (7070 Avenue Henri Julien)

4. Monastiraki

"Monastiraki is a lovely little shop and gallery located in the Mile End (and not far from my studio). They sell local prints, zines, and odd and wonderful vintage objects and ephemera." (5478 St Laurent)

5. The Silophone

"The Silophone is a sonic installation in an abandoned grain elevator in Montreal's old port. When you speak into the microphone in the concrete outpost by the water, you can hear your voice echoing through the chambers of Silo #5. Broadcasts are also available by phone or Internet." (Promenade du Vieux-Port at Mcgill)
