Somewhere Armchair by Tal Alkabes

From Tal Alkabes, a hand tufted armchair "upholstered" using the technique used for rug making. Says Alkabes, "the topography created by the different heights of the wool replace the traditional foam upholstery."

"The wood structure is minimal and supports the carpet in strategic areas. It was important for me to relate to the origin of the technology and design an armchair folded from a flat carpet."


"The wooden structure is shaped to give the carpet it's armchair silhouette. The graphic meadow I chose to design was to emphasise the emotional and naive nature of the furniture. The folded carpet transforms the flat meadow drawing into a three dimensional landscape and provides the illusion of sitting somewhere else..."
