Flaws incorporated: Derelict Furniture by Tonis Kalve & Ahti Grunberg reclaims wood from industrial scrap, selected woodpiles and abandoned sheds, upcycling it into fine furnishings, where imperfections add distinction.
Details: Sources include the likes of “a restricted Czarist-era military building on a distant Baltic coast,” “a time-worn camping shed,” or the “decaying cafeteria terrace of the 1920’s Tallinn Hippodrome.” Markings on packing remnants are retained. Wood is cleaned and match to pieces, each of which comes numbered and with its provenance story.
Designers: Derelict Furniture, the brand and company, is the concept of Tonis Kalve and Ahti Grunberg, both architects and interior designers, working from Tallinn, Estonia.
