by Ted Savage / August 29, 2011

Swedish design studio Folkform's new work explores the collision of handicraft and machine-made with an ancient material, crystal glass.

The goal was to attempt to create something new when a traditional handicraft was incorporated into an existing industrial manufacturing process.

A trip to an old glassworks in the Czech countryside provided the stage for a collaboration with Maxim Velčovsky, a leading designer in the Czech Republic who specializes in glass and porcelain.

Their research ultimately took the form of the Industrial Intervention exhibition, a series of new works resulting from materials experiments combined with traditional Czech handcrafting techniques.

Selected glass pieces from the Industrial Intervention exhibition will be on display at Swedish Design Goes London during the London Design Festival next month.
