New Designs at MoMA
by Susan / January 19, 2007

I was invited to attend New York's Museum of Modern Art Design Store launch of their Spring 2007 collection this week. Among the many items on display at the launch, here's what I saw that caught my eye (from left above):

Orka Mitt; don iSi's Orka Mitt and you can plunge your hand into boiling water and remove a boiled egg without so much as a wince. Made of silicone, this all-purpose, waterproof kitchen mitt can withstand temperatures of up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The exterior surface is ribbed which makes it safer for picking up hot slippery pasta pots. This is one non-discriminating mitt – being equally at home on a leftie as on a rightie.

MALBA Products; MoMa Design Store partnered with the MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires) to bring more Argentine design to a U.S. audience. MALBA’s slick offering includes the Amigos desk accessories collection - a Kangaroo desk organizer, a Piggy Bank or Caterpillar tray for your paperclips and such. Los Amigos, while beautifully crafted in the tradition of quality leather products from Argentina, are more form than function.

Loop Candleholder; the chrome-finished Loop Candleholder is a modern twist (literally) on the classic candelabra. It is one continuous piece of intertwining steel that starts and finishes with two standard sized taper holders. Multiple Loops can be liked together to form a larger arrangement. Designed by the London team of Black and Blum. SK
