Spindle Pendants and Stools by Julia Feix and Tarek Merlin for TMforF&M

“This year will be the first appearance of Feix&Merlin – the eponymous studio founded by Julia Feix and Tarek Merlin – at London Design Festival and is the official launch of the new TMforF&M brand. Alongside the brand launch, TMforF&M will be launching six new products that will light up the design world. As designers, Feix and Merlin have always been interested at what’s gone before just as much as what is to come; so the aesthetic of the brand seeks to echo tradition and craft whilst firmly looking forward; a search for a new tradition.”

Featured here: The Spindle Pendants – a family of blown-glass pendants, and The Spindle Stools – a series of solid marble stools inspired by traditional timber spindle profiles, with three distinct profiles; the ‘Dorchester’, the ‘Wentworth’ and the ‘Charlotte’.

“The stools are hand-made out of from solid Arabescato marble in Tuscany, Italy by a talented team of artisans who have been working with marble all their lives. The fabrication process is similar as when creating a timber spindle, albeit using a much larger lathe; the stools start as a solid block of marble that is slowly and carefully turned and shaped into the spindle profile, the centre of the stool is cored out to reduce weight.

We are using this core, which is essentially a ‘waste material’, to create smaller versions of the stools which can be used as side tables ; in this way we can minimise waste of this beautiful material and also breathe life into a something that would otherwise be discarded.

The stools can be used internally or externally, in bathrooms and wet spaces and are available in a variety of sizes and finishes, and because the stone is always different each time, each one is unique.” spindle_pendants_stools_julia_feix_tarek_merlin_tmforfm_03
