A penguin, gorilla and a humpback whale are the first in a series of foldable metal sculptures, inspired by the animal kingdom, which are sculpted into their final shape with the help of magnets.
Details: A Kickstarter project launching at Designjunction 2014 in London, Poligon is a collaboration between Rodrigo Solorzano and Matthew White which began when they met at the Royal College of Art in London. In addition to the initial animal collection, Penguin, Gorilla, Whale, a range of insect based sculptures has also been created; Bedbugs, Woodlouse, Ant, Mantis, and Dragonfly.
“Poligon has created a set of animal sculptures inspired by some of the most wonderful creatures on earth, taking their form and simplified it whilst keeping their identity. The metal sculptures arrive in flat sheet form which are then sculpted into their final form. Magnets are already fixed onto the sheet so that the individual elements of the sculpture are rapidly assembled into the final piece. â¨This can be achieved by hand with no additional tools.â¨â¨â¨” say Solorzano and White.
