Latest and greatest? Canon is the last major manufacturer to enter the mirrorless compact arena, with the Canon EOS M Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Cameraâ professional image quality and Full HD video in a relatively tiny package aimed at all ends of the consumer market, hardcore photo fan to casual point-and-shooter. Built around an 18-megapixel APS-C-sized image sensor, housed a magnesium-alloy case, it weighs a mere 300g with battery and lens. Buttons and knobs are reduced to a minimum, while a rich control menu is available through the 3″ touchscreen. Cool advanced features as a step up from compacts include a hotshoe for external flash, offering way more power and control than a typical compact’s built-in approach, and an external microphone input with level control. And the new EF-M mount is compatible with Canon’s extensive line of EF/EF-S lenses. Coming up in October, with an EF-M 22mm f/2 lens for $799.99, with an optional EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens also available. The mirrorless category got underway four long years ago, so Canon has been biding it’s time!
