Sheets of paper add color to this tabletop.

Breaking Surface is a table by Sophie Hardy that consists of colored sheets of paper sandwiched between two sheets of plywood. The edge of the table has an unusual serrated edge to expose the layers of color.

The piece is actually social and political, created to encourage discussions around integration in societies worldwide grappling with this issue. Says Hardy, “I wanted to use paper as my material to represent hidden potential and concealed beauty that I believe exists in the layering of a multicultural community.”
