The Zik Parrot by Starck, “the headset for the smartphone generation,” promises that more is less. More as in wireless headphones packed with technology: Bluetooth, motion detection, bone conduction sensor, active noise control, touch panel, and digital signal processing (DSP) to create Parrot’s Concert Hall Effect. Less as in, all of the tech inside makes using this set a breeze. Swipe the panel on the outside of the earpiece, up-down for volume, forward-back for track next-previous track. Take the set off, and the motion is detected, and normal smartphone operation is restored. Speak and the bone conduction sensor measures jaw movement and adjusts volume accordingly. Microphones inside and out measure the noise making it through and applies electronic cancellation. The custom DSP algorithm creates a spatial concert hall effect. The audio quality is superb, with a 10Hz-20kHz sensitivity. The design is by Phillippe Starck. This is the prototype, and a smartphone control app is on its way as well. Check them out…
