Setting the hot hatch world abuzzin’, the Vauxhall Astra VXR is the latest, greatest performance version of the long-time UK small family car standard, with design consulting by two-time 24 Hours Nürburgring winner, Joachim Winkelhock. It begins with a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder direct injection engine, developing 280 hp and 295 foot-pounds of torque, and a top speed of 155 mph. A custom mechanical limited slip differential on the front wheels improves handling and keeps power on the road. Competition brakes are by Brembo. The Vauxhall FlexRide system in the VXR offers pushbutton control: there’s standard the Sport button, plus a VXR button, providing a choice of aggressive tunings for damper, throttle and steering. Add custom front and rear bumpers and side skirts, an aerodynamic roof spoiler, dual exhaust, upgraded instruments and a pair of performance seats and…Bob’s yer uncle! Official reveal is next month at the Geneva Motor Show.
