Superb multimedia audio, simplified, is the message from newcomer Engage’s Unity Home Theater Platform. To be precise, the promise is total hook-up, from box to ears in 15 minutes. The sleek and compact unit integrates dual 10″ woofers, 5.25″ down-firing mid-bass and left, center, and right channel speakers all in the soundbar, and a Blu-ray/DVD player. All of that connects to your HDTV with a single HDMI cable, and you are good to go! Details include Dolby/DTS 5.1, a front-panel iPod/iPhone dock, Ethernet connectivity, and…only the one wire! The package is particularly aimed at the large percentage of HDTV buyers who don’t purchase an audio solution at the same time, presumably, because they don’t want to face the set-up hassle. Unity was developed by former Apple Audio Labs head Todd Beauchamp in collaboration with RKS Design and will sell for about $1,000.
