Final frontier gear, Tom Sachs: NIKECraft is a Sachs-Nike capsule collection of space exploration-ready sportswear, comprising the Mars Yard Shoe (above), the Trench, the Marsfly Jacket, and the Lightweight Tote. Unusual materials taken from automotive air bags, boat sails, actual space suits, and the like, are combined with task-specific functionality: zipper pulls as storage compartments, the periodic table of elements printed on a jacket lining, and so forth. The Mars Yard Shoe features the fabric used in the Mars Excursion Rover airbags. The collection launch coincides with the Tom Sachs SPACE PROGRAM: MARS exhibition in NYC.
