The Balvenie Tun 1401 “Batch 3″ Scotch Whisky

The magical atmosphere inside Balvenie’s Warehouse 24 in northeastern Scotland’s Speyside region was the inspiration for their latest US limited edition whisky, the Tun 1401 Batch 3. Conceived by the Balvenie’s malt master David Stewart, the Tun 1401 is a combination of 10 whisky casks, seven bourbon and three sherry, with vintages ranging from 1967 to 1989. The Tun, a very big liquid vessel made of wood, is where the casks are blended or “married”. The Tun 1401 is testament to David Stewart’s blending skill as reported tastings rate it as one of the best Balvenies to date, alternatively described as full of character, complex, balanced, with tropical notes. There are four batches of Tun 1401 in all, however only “batch 3″ was made for US consumption.
