Tesla Model X

Tesla Model X

Their claim is unequivocal—”Tesla makes the best electric cars in the world”—and their just-announced new model, the Tesla Model X, aims to take that to a new cross-category: SUV meets minivan. The design approach embraces e-technology and the driver and passenger experience, equally. On top of the Tesla powertrain and battery packs, the Model X seats seven, with easy standing-up access to the second- and third-row seating via rather radical, gull-wing style Falcon Wing doors. The dash is…futuristic, befitting the new car company’s Silicon Valley origins, with a large Tesla Touchscreen control panel set front and center. A low center of gravity and peppy 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds provide agility and nimble handling for stop-and-go urban conditions. Major options include upgrading the rear-wheel drive to dual-motor all-wheel drive in standard or performance versions, and choice of 60 or 85 kWh battery. Slated for production in late 2013, first deliveries are expected in early 2014.  The Tesla motto: “No hybrids. No hydrogen. No hype.”
