Specialized Turbo E-bike

The new, high-end Specialized Turbo E-bike is over the top, in the best way possible: engineered for speed, sleekly ergonomic styling! Designed from scratch by California racing specialists, Specialized, the Turbo is powered by a direct drive rear hub motor with sensors that match the power assist to your pedaling—the harder you go, the more it helps; stop pedaling and it stops, too—while the overall power level is controlled by a pair of thumb-operated buttons. The tough, alloy frame is streamlined for speed, with the Li-ion battery seamlessly integrated in the downtube (full charge in two hours). Every detail is thoughtfully optimized, down to the cap for the charger input, that magnetically sticks to the frame so it won’t get lost. Designed for the European market, where 25 kph is the max for unlicensed e-bikes, the Turbo tops out at a breezy 45 kph—Specialized has a dedicated activist pushing for regulation changes (with results already), arguing that a good commuter bike can already do 25 kph on its own. The Turbo is a substantial €5500 (about $7,300); you can also look for the tech to make its way to lower priced Specialized rides.
