Nokia 808 PureView

Nokia 808 PureView

Radical new photo technology comes first to a phone, with the Nokia 808 PureView, a smartphone with a 41MP camera that “packs the goodness of 7 pixels into 1.” The tech is based on a massive sensor—five times larger than in most phones, three times larger than most compact cameras—plus PureView software. Instead of using all those extra pixels to print photos the size of a house, the 808 employs pixel-binning, combining a cluster of pixels into one, for dramatically low-noise 5MP image, up to 3x lossless zoom (3MP, 8MP and full res outputs are also selectable), and a choice of width-to-height aspect ratios. While all this doesn’t make the 808 a high-end camera, for everyday-sized prints and online sharing, results are spectacular. On the video end, PureView provides 1080p Full HD recording with smooth, lossless 4x zoom. Another first, High Amplitude Audio Capture, works with the built-in digital mic to capture distortion free audio even, when things get LOUD. A xenon flash and LED video light handle the darkness. Very cool indeed, and the 808 doesn’t stop there. Exclusive to Nokia phones, there’s Dolby Headphones, delivering surround sound through a regular stereo headset. Add in Nokia Maps with driving coords for over 100 countries, instant social media sharing, and an eyecatching profile and you have one supersized smartphone. In white, black, or red.
