Concept to reality comes to the Mercedes-Benz A-Class 2012, rendered (above) and caught live by snapshot (below) at its official reveal in Geneva earlier this month. This is the third generation of the A-Class, originally launched in 1997, when it became the entry-level Mercedes. And it is a curious class: Luxury compact? Mini MPV? Supermini? Subcompact? Larger than a city car, smaller than a small family car? Mercedes simply calls this 5-door hatchback a sporty compact model. With completely new design streams from its A-Class predecessors, it comes in three versions, Style, Urban, and the specially performance-engineered AMG Sport, with 4-cylinder gas and diesel engine choices that generate up to 211 hp, a low-slung ride (up to 18 cm lower than before), styling interiors, and a host of technology, including a radar-based collision warning system with visual and audible warnings and Brake Assist, optional PRE-SAFE, a system that automatically adjusts seatbelts, seats, and windows in potential crash situations, and smartphone integration capability in the Central Media Display. All of this is available in Europe from June 15—stay tuned for news for the rest of the world. Meanwhile, there is lots of eyecandy and a few more details in the videos below…

When is it coming to South Africa? I want to buy it in November.
