Wearing a death’s head on your wrist, as a continual reminder of your impending demise, every time you check the time, is the simple idea behind this unambiguously named fine timepiece, the Memento Mori Watch. Designer Fiona Krüger is clear about adding to the body of memento mori art, citing the 17th century skull watch carried by Mary Queen of Scots, and the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration, as sources of inspiration. The watch is hand-assembled on a Swiss ETA mechanical movement, in a hand-engraved, solid silver housing, with gold- and rhodium-plated brass, laser-cut and engraved dial, blued steel hands, and hand-cut mineral glass, on a blued calf leather strap with a silver buckle. This is an early days project by Krüger, a recent graduate of the Masters in Luxury Industry and Design at prestigious ECAL/University of Arts and Design Lausanne, Switzerland.
