This year marks a major upgrade to IWC Schaffhausen’s extreme-performance Pilot’s series, with the 12-model IWC Pilot’s Watches Collection 2012. Pilot’s Watches have a history as the military aviation watch of choice, going back to the early days of aerial combat. Optimum legibility at all times, rugged durability, and features like ability to withstand 30g forces, magnetic field shielding, and extra-long straps to fit over flight suits, helped the various Pilot’s models make their name. The current line-up leader, the Top Gun Miramar, offers a ceramic/titanium case secured against pressure drop, and an automatic movement that stores 8.5 days of power, but stops after 7 to ensure perfect time… To drive home the fighter pilot-watch connection, the 2012 launch was held aboard an aircraft carrier replica in Geneva, with a high-visibility guest list that included actors Cate Blanchett and Ewan McGregor, best-athletes-ever reps Boris Becker and Zinedine Zidane, Adriana Lima from the international cover girl contingent, and a performance by Bryan Ferry.
