From a sea of high-end, all-purpose backpacks suitable for life in the city and on the road, the Hammarhead Industries HHI Day Pack may just emerge as the One. Designed as a motorcycle pack by custom bike maker, Hammarhead, hand-built in Brooklyn by d’emploi, every detail of its conception and execution speaks to simplicity and a level of quality that will, yes indeed, stand the test of time. It is constructed from waterproof 15 oz waxed cotton canvas, black salvaged boot leather, and virtually indestructible parachute hardware, the choice of materials resulting from the dissection and study of over 30 old military bags. The roll top closure allows quick access to a main compartment large enough to hold a 24-case of beer, with additional inner sleeves that conveniently fit laptops and tablets, while exterior side pockets put small object storage right at hand. Each pack is made to order on a Depression-era Singer sewing machine. Old school quality. $290.
