Daniel Weil Making Time

Daniel Weil Making Time

A selling exhibition at auctioneer Sotheby’s, Daniel Weil Making Time combines two excursions into clock-making by renowned London-based industrial designer and former Royal College of Art professor, Daniel Weil. There are 12 clocks in all. Four are from the recent A Matter of Time series, each timepiece interpreted for a calling—acrobat (above), architect, astronomer and card player—constructed in nickel-plated brass, steel, and a variety of woods including ash, walnut and oak, with a quartz movement. Each is a one-off. From 1994, Time for All (below), visualizes the dual nature of time, both natural and artificial, clock-encasing tree trunks made of silk-screened plywood. These will be made up in editions of up to 10. January 9-13, 2012, is the date of the auction.
