High-end luxury audio innovators Bang & Olufsen make a big move with their new B&O PLAY division, aimed at the young and mobile, and the inaugural B&O PLAY Beolit 12 portable audio system. The mildly retro feel is not imagined, the design is a tribute to B&O’s popular Beolit transistor radios from the Sixties, both in look and in packing quality sound into a compact form. The Beolit 12′s 120 Watts digital Class D power amp system and individually driven pair of 2” tweeters and 4” woofer deliver enough sound to cut through crowd chatter and fill a mid-sized room. It is AirPlay-ready, for wireless use with the iOS family, and there is an Ethernet jack for direct networking. Craftsmanship naturally extends to the rugged case, with aluminum grille and Italian full leather carrying strap. The rechargeable battery promises eight hours of normal volume play. For the audiophile on the move, or any discerning music lover, it is $799. Let B&O CEO Tue Mantoni tell you more about it himself…
