Anthony Bourdain's The Layover

It’s important to know that celebrity chef/bestselling author/TV host Anthony Bourdain could singlehandedly uphold the (semi-fictional) state known as New York Attitude. This he brings to his Travel Channel TV show, The Layover, taking us on a largely culinary whirlwind tour of world destinations that we might wind up in for only a few hours or a day. On a flight layover, perhaps. Articulate and smoothly hip—that’s meant in the best way, and throw in…irreverent—his cheerfully blunt, dry sarcasm wears well as he guides us through his top picks for short time. Even better, on the show we watched, he was bang on with his street-level facts, steering us around the tourist fodder to the cool spots, and managing to have some totally illegal fun while at it. The show’s format, map graphics, and camerawork are all solid. And the narration is…entertaining. Favorite line, from the intro to a trendy cafe: “If you are a citizen of the People’s Republic of Laptopistan…” Right. A clear thumbs up. Check out this full-length episode, layover city: Montreal…
