The tube backrest on the Sling Chair by Joe Doucet, a common feature on many chairs, is actually a flexible silicone tube which conforms to the body.

Details: The flexible silicone tube gives support to the appropriate area of the back as it naturally adjusts to each individual body type.

The chair is crafted from solid birch and the tubing slips on to extensions protruding from the legs using only friction allowing for many variations by way of color and texture of the tubing. Once weight is applied the tube grips the housing and will hold fast until tension is relieved.

The chair was designed in collaboration with MakerAnonymous and exhibited during 2014 New York design week in May.
