Stealth balance: Piggy Bank by Selma Durand uses a cleverly hidden balance to weigh pocket change, the inner container leveling with the outer when 1, 2 and 5-cent coins add up to about a Euro, "enough to buy a stamp, a coffee or a baguette."

Designer: Born in France, based in Brooklyn, NY, Selma Durand is an industrial designer with a Master of European Design (MEDes) in Industrial Design/Design Management from Konstfack University, Stockholm, and in Interior Architecture/Product Design from Politecnico di Milano, Milan, a 2014 Master of Industrial Design from ENSCI-Les Ateliers, Paris, and a focus on "simplifying complexity."
