Scott & Scott Studio by Scott & Scott Architects
by Ted Savage / April 16, 2014
Simplification: Scott & Scott Studio by Scott & Scott Architects, their own work space, celebrates simplicity, materials that age well, and respect for place, with a former butcher shop and grocery, stripped back to its basic volume, glass-fronted, lined with local Douglas fir, and sealed with a beeswax finish.

Details: Built by the architects with carpenter assistance. Fir boards were sourced and milled on nearby Vancouver Island. Completed with black-stained fir plywood millwork. Beeswax finish was adapted from a 19th century recipe, replacing the solvent with Canadian whiskey. Conference/work tables are a Scott & Scott design, with blackened galvanized steel frame and hand-stitched leather surface.
