Coal mining is the unusual inspiration for Terrenoire Furnishings by Marlène Janin, a collection of seating, lighting and other objects that preserve the history of Saint-Étienne, France, as a coal capital.

Janin is a 2012 Masters graduate of ESADSE (École Supérieure d'Art et Design Saint-Étienne) design school. This final graduation project is on display at Ligne Roset for Paris Design Week, happening now.
