Windworks Furniture by Merel Karhof
by Ted Savage / May 13, 2013
Created, rather incredibly, entirely by wind power, Windworks Furniture by Merel Karhof teams up windmill-driven manufacturers - a saw mill, a colour mill, and Karhof's own knitting mill, all in the windmill-rich Zaanse Schans region of the Netherlands - to create seating upholstered with small pillows that visually represent the amount of wind power required in the fabrication process.

The Windworks project, an extension of Karhof's 2010 Wind Knitting Factory wind-powered knitting machine, illustrates possibilities for green urban factories. On exhibit at Verfmolen de Kat at Zaanse Schans, Zaandam, The Netherlands, May 12-19. Via Design.nl.
