Like a Houseboat by Shipley Architects
by Ted Savage / March 12, 2013
Floating on steel beams set on concrete piers, Like a Houseboat by Shipley Architects, is an ultra-carbon footprint conscious, LEED Platinum certified home in Dallas, Texas.

The foundationless approach accommodates the poor soil quality of a former landfill site and provides minimal land disturbance. Heat and cooling are geothermal. Pressure-treated porch flooring is used instead as siding. The floor framing uses 2x12s salvaged from the dancefloor at the homeowners' wedding. Via Archinect. Photos: Charles Davis Smith.
