The City of New York today announced details of NYC x Design, "A City Wide Design Celebration" to be held on Friday May 10th through Tuesday May 21st, 2013.

Created to serve as a central umbrella platform that will "unify, leverage, and celebrate the City's rich and diverse design communities throughout the year", the 2013 edition of NYC x Design is bookended by the Frieze Art Fair and International Contemporary Furniture Fair.

The City of New York enlisted Base to create the identity for the festival with the main objective to create a strong, iconic mark that would be highly recognizable and visible citywide.

"We chose to make the 'X' the focal point of the identity " says Base creative director Min Lew at Base NY, "as it represents a crossroads where the City intersects with the design community and a multiplier, reflective of the various design disciplines that will partake in the festival." Within the iconic 'X' logo mark, the backgrounds may mutate, serving as a flexible framework to celebrate the different disciplines within design." More at and Base Design.
