Storm Cottage by Fearon Hay Architects

Storm-proof in New Zealand, Storm Cottage by Fearon Hay Architects sits ocean-front on Great Barrier Island. The exterior, rough-hewn timber, is layered with operable perforated metal screens that moderate light, air and protection, and allow the home to be entirely shuttered when not in use.

Inside, warm oiled oak. Off-the-grid, there are solar panels for power, and independent water collection and treatment systems. Via Remodelista. Photos: Patrick Reynolds.
