Ballsbridge by Peter Legge Associates

Surgical elimination was the key to this red brick reno: Ballsbridge by Peter Legge Associates transforms a late 19th century terrace house, in County Cork, Ireland, into a lively and open 21st century home for a design-y couple who wished to retain a link to the past.

Cluttered and uncomfortable rear servants quarters, a standard feature of a class society gone by, were entirely removed, along with rear walls, and an extension added, while signature features like woodwork and plasterwork cornices were preserved. Features like a high-efficiency condensing gas boiler for underfloor heating, solar hot water, and breathable soy-based spray insulation bring the energy conservation. Via ArchDaily.
