Jaffa Apartment by Pitsou Kedem Architects
by Ted Savage / August 10, 2011
Via @Yatzer, a modern apartment within ancient walls, overlooking the old port of Jaffa, Tel Aviv, Israel, is an "amalgamation of contemporary minimalist elements with 'historical asceticism.'" The building, exact age undetermined, is likely hundreds of years old. Additions made over time were meticulously stripped down to the original stone walls, segmented ceilings, and arches, revealing the austere fundamental design.

"Modernity is expressed through the opening up of spaces, the creation of an urban loft environment ... [and] the application of new materials." These include stainless steel, iron, Corian, microcemento, matched with minimalistic furniture in neutral tones and natural materials. "The language of minimalism is now embedded in this historic residence." More at Pitsou Kedem Architects. Photo: Pitsou Kedem Architects.
