Design the World: Mies van der Rohe Barcelona Daybed
by Harry / November 4, 2010
This post is sponsored by Autodesk. Design the World is a series of posts on the things we actually own and use here at MOCO LOCO, as well as what MOCO readers actually own and use.

Readers can upload a picture and description at mocoloco.com/upload. Today we're featuring a Favorite Design post from Call of the Small.

Here's what Call of the Small had to say about the Mies van der Rohe Barcelona Daybed:

I cannot yet afford a real Mies van der Rohe Barcelona daybed, so I have to settle for a 1:12 scale one! The URL I included shows the daybed in action.

I think Mies's design is ingenious - the lines are firm and structured, but they are coated in the textured softness of the cushion.

The chrome legs contrast with the wood underpinnings and the leather of the cushion and pillow.

The roundness of the pillow also adds a nice contrast to the more structured lines. Perfect. Timeless.

The illustrative sketches you see here were all created by Chris Sweet using Autodesk's Sketchbook Pro because favorite designs, yours and mine, begin with an idea and quite often with the kind of sketches you see here.
