Design the World: Pencil, Paper and Scale
This post is sponsored by Autodesk. Congrats @architectbrian, your submission was chosen for the Haworth Zody Chair Giveaway.
Design the World is a series of posts on the things we actually own and use here at MoCo Loco, and starting today, what MoCo Loco readers actually own and use.
Here's what Brian wrote in his submission:
When I was first studying architecture, more than a decade ago, I was fascinated by the possibilities of 3-D modeling, CAD and the ability of a computer to be put to work as a design tool.
Now, I find that, with experience, comes wisdom. After years of using nearly every computer design software available to me, I have found that my most needed, trusted and dependable design tool is my process.
My favorite design objects are the pencil, paper and scale. With these, I can design at any speed, any scale, and the time spent drawing gives my design process the room I need to maneuver over any challenge. I always have some on hand--a homemade sketch book goes wherever I go.
No design tool has more elegance, simplicity, or utility than a well-practiced design process, and I require nothing more to put it to work than a little time, a pencil, and something to capture my marks.

The illustrative sketches you see here were all created by Chris Sweet using Autodesk's Sketchbook Pro because favorite designs, yours and mine, begin with an idea and quite often with the kind of sketches you see here.
