The faded glory of once-elegant homes is captured by Jared Small in paintings depicting the decay of neighbourhoods and their architecture. Peeling paint and shabby facades cannot hide the fact that the ravages of time are not only cosmetic. The sharp details of the central characters dissolve into abstraction as the painting flows toward its edges, almost as though the hard edges of the houses' reality takes on the soft focus of memories. Moving, haunting, and effective.
