Boo Ritson's canvas is the human body. The British artist uses her human subjects' skin and clothes as the base for her work, covering them in paint before photographing the results. The sitter participates in the creation of a hybrid of painting, sculpture, photography and, to some degree, performance. Ritson uses the structure of the human body to develop characters that are removed from the actual personality of the people beneath the paint. She goes the further step of obscuring their eyes and, therefore, souls, with dark glasses, easing along the transition to a sculptural state.
