Floating Gardens by Melissa Haslam
Young girls and flowers are in bloom, especially after dark, in Melissa Haslam's new body of paintings and drawings, Floating Garden. Using a hyper-realistic technique, Haslam transposes work evocative of the vanitas and memento mori of Dutch still life painters into a contemporary context. Lush flowers and foliage mask the slightly sinister come-hither effect of the girls in their garden silence. Any signs of decay are yet to follow.
