Toronto-area painter Yangyang Pan creates lush compositions that pull the exuberance of the natural world in through her brush and onto her canvas. Using layers of colours and bold strokes, Pan takes what is often too big for us to absorb and appreciate and, like an alchemist, distils it into concentrated elixirs. Her combinations of colours tease, leaving us with a yearning for entry into the canvas itself, to lose ourselves in an intense landscape of the imagination, one that is both ours and hers.
