In his paintings, Tobias Tovera exposes "transmuted spaces, places where energy shifts, changes, or renews itself." The San Francisco artist does so by creating works that flow with energy that comes from an artful layering of colour. There is something floral about the paintings, which sometimes have a mineral flavour about them. Lush and voluptuous, they can also be somewhat evocative of silk or rich layers of fine tissue paper, dramatic, never retiring.
