Swedish artist Matthias van Arkel's paintings are bold, sculptural works of dyed platinum silicone rubber. The material is applied to provide colour and form to compositions that beckon. Almost voluptuous in nature, the paintings are commanding and beg to be touched. Some look like compositions of layered deflated balloons or shaped wax; others are more like slices of stripy, silicone cake; all are enticing.
