Ron Mueck's use of realism affords viewers a strong emotional connection to his sculptures. A few pieces from an upcoming show are no exception. The protagonist of Woman with Sticks is a sturdy character unwilling to shy away from the task at hand, giving rise to the assumption that she is soon to provide shelter and warmth. Still Life reflects the classic fowl depicted in many paintings that have come before, but its scale (the chicken is the size of a human) is perhaps more of a nudge to reflection on our own lives stilled. Youth, a tidy young man wearing a blood-stained t-shirt examines a wound in his side - how will his life continue, if at all?
