As a young boy, Dennis Frates was inspired by photos that came into his world via National Geographic, Sierra Club and Audubon, so he saved up money from a paper route to buy his first camera at fourteen. To his dismay, the results were less than spectacular. He gave up photography, but not the natural world, and went on to study landscapes and ecology. His interest in photography was abandoned until he had an epiphany while fly-fishing in Montana. Recent photos were taken in Death Valley National Park and the Virgin Islands.
