Reduction fired porcelain vessels by Kirsten Coelho
by sabine7 / May 9, 2011

Pre-loved enamelware with a rustically rusty lip? Or contemporary porcelain vessels by Kirsten Coelho? This Danish-born, Australian-trained artist uses her talents as a ceramicist to recreate these tools of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Influenced by the ageing process of the enamelware, Coelho adds an iron oxide edge to the reduction-fired porcelain glazed in a pale celadon. The results are sturdier than they look. Coelho's goal is to produce simple forms that are glazed with subtlety, and here the iron oxide adds an element that seals the deal.
